How we write, check and update our content.

Mortgage decisions are large and lasting. Our guides, calculators and service pages are written to be accurate, sourced and clear about what they don't cover.

Who writes and reviews our content

Our guides and service pages are prepared by the Best Mortgage Montreal team and reviewed by Stan Rashev, a mortgage and real estate broker with 22 years of experience and access to more than 30 lenders. Articles show the author or reviewer and the date the page was last updated.

Sources we rely on

We base regulatory and tax statements on primary sources: the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), Revenu Québec, the Government of Québec and the City of Montréal. New guides list their sources at the end of the article.

How we calculate examples

Every worked example and calculator uses Canadian semi-annual compounding, as lenders do, and the rules in force when the page was updated — including the federal stress test, CMHC premium tiers and 2026 welcome-tax brackets. Rates in examples are illustrations, not offers; the rate available to you depends on your full file.

How often we update

We review service pages and calculators at least once a year and whenever a rule changes — for example the annual indexation of welcome-tax brackets in January, or changes to mortgage insurance and qualification rules. Older news articles keep their original date and carry a note when the rules they describe have changed.

Independence and compensation

On most residential mortgages, the lender pays our compensation, so our service costs you nothing. If a file carries a fee — which can happen with some private, alternative or commercial financing — it is disclosed in writing before you commit. We present at least two or three options and explain why we recommend one.

Not personalized advice

Our content is general information to help you understand your options. It is not financial, legal or tax advice for your situation. For decisions involving tax deductions, estates or corporate structures, we encourage you to involve your accountant, notary or lawyer — and we're happy to work with them.

Corrections

If you spot an error or an outdated figure, please tell us at stan@stanimirrashev.ca. We correct factual errors promptly and update the page date when we do.
